Its a new month and things are a changing around here: all the music that I posted before is now gone so its all new stuff from this point going forward. If you know that you just have to have a particular track now, you are just going to have to leave a comment and ask
Like JKE said, gotta let the people know that I am not afraid to take this dog outside and shoot it dead.
But, its Friday, lets have some music first!
Another round of requests tonight.
Mirembe asked
Tabu Ley Rochereau – Christina
Do you have it?
Listen to it….quite nuyce.Ok this threat on number of comments being prop to amt of tracks we get….tsk tsk tsk.
OK, interesting problem here: I have Tabu and I have Christina. The problem that I have is the track named Christina that I have is not by Tabu Ley.
What to do, what to do?
Maybe a little bit of everything will work.
First, some Tabu Ley
Then some Christina

Done. Who said techies can’t represent lateral thinking?
Next up: Jeff asked
Do you have anything of Madilu System or Ndala Kasheba?Madilu had one loooong song that I can’t remember the name and Ndala Kasheba had Marashi ya Pemba and many more.
Here is something really nice for you: Leah. Looks like this might end up being Congolese night!
And to wind things up:
Next up: Mato asked
Hi Steve,
Thanks again for more great music. Just to let you know, the Franco link opens Daudi Kabaka’s Pole Musa. Must be a mistake. If you’re taking requests, how about Mr. Sura Mbaya himself, the great Remmy Ongala?
Cheers.
and then he goes on to add.
Thanks. I have Remmy’s albums Mambo and Sema on CD, but not Songs for the Poor Man, which is his best in my opinion. Just a crappy tape recording of it. Kifo is probably his best song. I’m interested in any of his earlier recordings with Orchestra Super Matimila before he was “discovered” by Peter Gabriel and Real World. He’s got to have some old school stuff out there somewhere?
OK, easily done! Your favorite track will be from crappy tape no more.
If you are here to try and pick up the older tracks that used to be up on ntwiga.net, it is way too late, they are already gone.
Next time you hear about a deadline, try and take it seriously. If on the other hand you were wise enough to point HTTRack at my domain and suck all those puppies up when they were still available, then good for you.
Aside from all that, one final thought, remember the rules people.
Thats all folks

Hi Steve,
Just to let you know that ever since I discovered your sight, I’ve been hooked. I have no idea what got me, and it’s all good. The time you spend doing all marvelous stuff is really amazing. Once again, keep the good work up!
However, any clue on John Nzenze and his unique style of guitar playing? The days of Nairobi Twist and so on reflects a legend in folklore. A sample would be greatly appreciated especially for die-hard Nzenze fans.
Thanks,
Oshamblo
Well done Steve, you are doing a great job.
I am among those who are really in need of taarab tracks, would pls try to soothe this hunger of ours? Once again, well done and all the best
Sorry, dumb question for you: how do I actuallly save the tracks? If I right-click, my computer just saves a picture of a note. If I left-click, I get a QuickTime version of the track. So I assume I’m doing something wrong.
PS That Rochereau track is GREAT.
Hey, I must be having mental problems. Is there a way to save these tracks? If I right-click, it just saves the picture of the note. If I left-click, I get it in QuickTime, which means I’m just playing it off your site. I assume there’s some simple thing I’m not doing…
LOL.
I hope Ndwiga does not wisen up and prevent us from downloading the tracks.
Thanks for the tracks. My apologies for downloading them. I just couldnt help myself. Unfortunately, I am unable to avail my collection online.
Hi Jesse: This is my backdoor method of saving the track. Let the song play in its entirety. After that u will usually find that your browser has saved the buffered file somwhere within the labyrinths of its temporary folders.
Steve as usual, thanks for sharing!
Oops, didn’t realize it posted twice. Steve, I thought you were putting these up so we COULD save them. Didn’t think it was, like, some secret sneaky thing to try to save them. Ben, that browser thing didnt’ work for me–tried a search and didn’t find it anywhere on the computer. But I appreciate the thought.
Asante sana for Kifo, I have been going crazy looking for this track. BTW, do you have a version of Nakei Nairobi where they say, “Twende Nairobi, tuka…., twende Nairobi, tuka…..” It means I don’t remember the whole thing but I always thought it was Nakei Nairobi in version xyz.
If you also run into Tabu Ley’s — Ton ton skol, mimi ndani.
Thanks bwana dj.
That link to Indexed: Lets just say i am hooked. Its brilliant. I am addicted now.
You’ve come across xkcd.com? Brilliant Web Comic.
Hi Steve,
Thanks so much so much for posting these wonderful tracks, especially the older classic East African rumba ones. I’ve really enjoyed your site and greatly appreciate your generosity in making this music available to us. The Maroon Commandos track is excellent, by the way.
I was really disappointed, however, to have missed a chance to hear/download the tracks from the Baba Gaston, Prof. Omari and Les Bantous de la Capitale blog entry from last week. I wasn’t able to check your site for over a week until last Friday, when I discovered to my chagrin that you had changed the rules and that the music would be up only for a week at the most. Guess I need to keep up with my favorite sites more often. If there’s any chance you could re-post those tracks again sometime in the future, it would be great appreciated. As for another request that you may be likelier to fulfill, how about some Mbaraka Mwinshehe. I believe you had already posted the track “Shida”, and I’m familiar with “Expo” and “Nisalimie Wanazaire”, so if you have another track, that would be great. Thanks again!
Man this is amazing…Steve how come you don’t publicise the musical gems you are hoarding here.
Maroon Commandos, Tabu Ley, Madilu and Remmy are absolutely beautiful. This is my first time here and I have discovered that I have missed so many previous great oldies. I used to listen to these songs on Voice of Kenya way back when I was a kid, when we never used to lock our front doors.
Please post more Maroon Commandos Steve and keep up the good job…I have bookmarked your site for many future visits.
Endelea na hii kazi safi hivyo hivyo…
