Seems like I have been naughty, I could have sworn that I posted a couple of tracks this last Friday but Musa now reminds me that I did not.

Please accept my apologies so that we can get to the music.

First off, a track from Madilu Coeurs known as Boreau Deg Bonyenye. I could have sworn this was Franco especially given that I had posted this some time back and gotten no takers on guessing whom it was although Musa stated almost categorically that it is Franco. Well, now some research indicates that this is might indeed be by Madilu Coeurs, a group whose composition I have been unable to discern. Can anybody help us out with some information about them?

East African rhumba circa 1970/1980 Madilu Coeurs – Boreau Deg Bonyenye

Next, a track from the The Maestro himself: this is Massu originally released in 1986? that Stern’s re-released back in 2005. The re-release has already sold out.

Franco, Simaro and Jolie  The best of Franco - Massu

East African rhumba circa 1970/1980 Franco Luambo Makiadi & TP OK. Jazz. – Massu

And a special treat for all of you: here is Tony Nyadundo, King of Ohangla music, a genre that has taken Kenya by storm, in Ng’ato. The cool thing about this track is the instrumentation; I thought I heard an accordion in there and there is a harmonica at the end at the track fades out.

    Hi Steve,
Would the lead singer/vocalist on Franco’s ‘Massu’ be M’Pongo Love?

Actually, it is Jolie Detta who was the only female to ever sing lead vocals for TP OK Jazz.

You can check out more Franco cover art here.

Just realized that this LP is has Layile, another of my favorite tracks on the B side. So this must be Jolie as well.

    Definitely killer!!!

(In case you did not notice, there is a bonus track somewhere in that comment!)

Steve, this version of Massu is by MPongo Love, maybe the original was by Jollie Detta, I don’t know…………..

  4. Jean-Luc says:

Yeah, I was waiting for another version. As I read the comment above I realized the that versiojn is different. But for that it’s doubble nice.

A man from the dutch radio said 15 years ago, Franco is the most successful african musician of all time…

    I love that tune… thanks!!

  5. Messini says:

Franco’s version of Massu is totally different; there is a sample @ http://www.sternsmusic.com/discography_detailed/1532

  6. Nobrun says:

    Hey Messini,
The samples at Sterns Music are incorrect. To listen to ‘Massu’, you have to click on sample 01(labeled as ‘Mamou II’). To listen to ‘Mamou II’ you need to click on sample 03 (listed as ‘Bolingo…’) etc..

Tonny nyadundo is a very wonderful man and i like the way he dance
sing and his movements are not so bad i like the body on how he is
    flexible.

Jean-luc please shut the F*~& up. I’m tired of this idea of otherwise accomplished Africans having to be vetted by lowly Europeans just to be recognised. Anyone who has burrowed through the internet and ended up at ntwiga.net does not need to hear that a man on 3am radio in the Netherlands crowned Franco king.
