I was going to do a Taarab post this week but Matsuli beat me to it (again!) with a nice set of tracks about 2 weeks ago so hop over and take a listen. And while you are there, get a load of this amazing story.
On to business. Like the wise say, More Music Less Talk(TM).
Lets’ start with the easy to do stuff.
+ Akiiki asked for Mpongo Love. I think that Ndaya went up a while back and is still up so enjoy.
+ Then, back in November of the year of our Lord two thousand and seven, Joji asked if I could put up links to the Franco tracks on the site: well, they should all working now.
+ NK asked for anything from the Les Wanyika album Amigo. Here is the title track off that CD.
+ Steve asked for Oyoo Daktari by Musa Juma. While I do have the track, I have never gotten around to ripping it and believe it or not good people, I am completely out of hard drive space and I mean completely. It has gotten so bad that when I want to save something, I have to delete something else. So, it the meantime, enjoy these other Musa Juma and Orchestra Limpopo tracks.
+ Tim asked for some help with my attribution on a couple of tracks, Gilly asked for Safari ya Samburu which I do not have while Joe was looking for lyrics for a couple of others. Finally, Jay asked if anyone can help him save the files on the blog to his PC. Can anyone help?
Mutunga and Ricky Oduol from (don’t mess with) Texas asked for Ngali by Orchestra Les Kiam. I am sorry but I cannot seem to find that anywhere. Would Pamuzo by the same group be an acceptable substitute?
In the same vein, I have no idea if Mona Afinda is the same as Moni Atinda which I have. I suspect that this might have been me taking down the same track’s name incorrectly. Is this what you are looking for?
Tina asked for one of a couple of different tracks from either Orchesta Lipua Lipua or Orchestra Veve. It seems like today might be my day for failure as I do not seem to have any of these tracks. I have a couple of other tracks from the groups though. Please take a listen and let me know what you think.
Josephine Ayiera in a very very nice note, one of the nicest I have ever received actually, asked for Marijani Rajab.
Nice notes get tracks.
Marijani Rajab & Dar Es Salaam jazz Band – 01 Georgina
And then, as far as Ndala Kasheba goes, I have a track Marashi ya Pemba by International Orchestra Safari Sound but I am not sure if he was part of the group when this particular cover was done. Any experts with a definite opinion on this out there?
Dunia Msongamano – Ndala Kasheba (Freddie Supreme) & Orchestra Safari Sound (Dar)
International Orchestra Safari Sound – Marashi Ya Pemba (duku Duku)
These made it onto my playlist for this week and I had to share.
This track has been removed at the request of the request of a representative of the copyright owner, KenTunes LLC.
From African Serenades 29 by trackfinder extraordinaire Cheeku, always the man with the master plan, here is Likambo ya Supa
A couple of things before I go,
+ If I did not respond to your request here, do not take it the wrong way but I sometimes get lost. I wade through about 200 spam comments a day trying to find the pearls you leave (where have I heard those words before).
Please leave another request and I will come around to posting what you ask for as soon as I can.
+ please be sure to weigh in at Likembe on this debate and that got me all worked up and let me know if I am just speaking out of my (insert noun of choice here). I mean, don’t get me wrong, I really really really appreciate the great work that Alistair and other professionals in the field are doing but I think that it is time to face the fact that there is and should be enough room in the pond for both minnows and whales.
Wishing you a nice easter break! I see the vista “flu” has finally been fixed! Thanks for all the tracks of the week. Personally, I truly appreciate your meeting my requests Georgina, and Marashi ya Pemba. Concerning Marashi ya Pemba, I’d been looking for it everywhere. Finally, somebody posted this last week in the online forum I belong to. I inserted my own rejoinder (5thGLG) on this thread

What my buddy papa F posted is certainly a re-editing of the Yellow card album on which the original was. I don’t know why yours seems to sound like the original. I remember the tempo at the beginning being moderate yey, what I have in our papa F link seems faster. Let’s wait to hear from the others.I’ll always leave a line to request for something, which doesn’t absolutely have to be met…but for just in case..would there be the DDC Milimani park “Majirani huzima radio” hidden somewhere? How about the Maestro Luambo Makiadi’s Boma Ngai”?
On the other ha,d like all other partcipants, I’ll certainly drop in beats whenever they’re requested and I happen to have them.
Have a nice week, and thanks once again for the wonderful work.

Neno moja tu : shukrani. Nimefurahi kompyuta yako sawasawa sasa.
thanks for posting the songs. i hadn’t heard that maroon commandoes song in years!
Hello. Great blog, great tunes, great memories.
RE saving files onto pc (or mac or linux): I recommend songbird http://www.songbirdnest.com/ as soon as the page loads it gives you a list of media files it has found.
There are also some powerful features for music bloggers, e.g. some people embed some javascript that pulls up songbird’s “buy music” menu with links to direct download / Amazon / eMusic / etc.
Hello Steve,
I’d written a longer comment, which somehow disappeared in the thin air! I don’t know how. thank you so much for the Georgina and Marashi ya Pemba. I’d seen some Marashi ya Pemba on an album called “Yellow card” but it seemed to be a replay of the song. So after discussing with several folks, I went on venture to see how this could be explained. I guess it’s cos Ndale kasheba switched groups. Anyways, at times surprises come our way when least expected. I stumbled upon this website
http://www.eastafricantube.com/media/5469/Marashi_Ya_Pemba_2/
It’s got several Marijani Rajab oldies and other zilipendwa I find great. Do you happen to have any of these in Mp3 or vinyl, cos here we can only stream and it’s making me salivate. Particularly; Siwema, Ndoa ya mateso, mama watoto, Athumani etc, Mangwana’s Marie Tebbo. They’re all in streaming form on this website.
PS: After lsitneing to the marashi ya pemba on this website, I believe yours is the real Mcoy. The temple is quite even in what you psoted as opposed to this faster rythm we hear at east African tube.
Thanks for everything and have a great week.

Hey Jay,
I’m a bit hopeless with the technology but if you have a PC(don’t ask me about Macs) & haven’t tried it, this works for me. Right click on the file you wish to save, then click Save Target As. You should then get the option to Save As. Specify where you want the file to go(usually My Music) & click Save in the bottom right hand corner. As to paying the musicians for the music, your man here comes up with such hard to find stuff, best to just support African music in general by buying what’s available locally. Sterns is a great shop & mail order if your in London or New York. Hope this helps
The song ‘Marashi ya pemba’ was written by Ndala Kasheba himself and recorded at the then ‘Radio Tanzania’ studios in 1983. He was the band leader then, playing the 12 stringed guitar.
Kasheba re-recorded the song in 2001 at studio marimba and it became part of the ‘Yellow Card’ album (available at amazon and calabash music).
Orchestra Safari Sound was formed in 1979 by Mbombo wa Mbomboka a former orchestra maquis musician. It was later led by Kikumbi Mwanza Mpango (1979-1981), using the Masantula dance style and Ndala Kasheba (1981-1985) running under ‘Duku-duku’ dance.
In mid 1985 Kasheba left and the band was placed under the leadership of Muhidin Mwalimu Ngurumo who together with several others had defected from DDC Mlimani park orchestra. They joined OSS and formed the ‘Ndekule’ dance style.
Hi Steve,
Many thanks for the piece by Orchestre Vévé. Kiamangwana Mateta, a.k.a Verckys arguably produced the best Congolese music of all time. “Toweli nini”, “Lukani”, “Bilobela”, “Zonga Andowe” and of course “Mikolo Mileki Mingi” have proved hard to beat. Speaking of Vévé, can you please post”Muana Mburu” if you can find it?
I guess some shop in Nairobi’s Luthuli Avenue might just have a tape or 45 rpm vinyl disc with that track but that’s so far away from Milan where I’m writing from! It’s the sebbene on the “B” side that makes “Ngali” so special!
Mutunga I have Mwuna Mburu for you.
