So, this lands in my inbox last weekend (thank you Jeff!) and I have to share.

A couple of thoughts: the name of the group is which is literally Orchestra One One since moja is one in Swahili.

Talk about stating the obvious.

Adding to the sweet irony of all of this: the track name is Dunia duara – “the world is round”.

Talk about stating the obvi …

Oh, I already said that.

Enjoy.

  5. Nobrun says:

    Esororo,
The tune is Lipua Lipua’s ‘Mbondo’. You have a very clean copy.

  6. ricky oduol Texas says:

    To Esororo
    the track name is Bondo

  7. ricky oduol Texas says:

oops Mbondo I last heard this song in 1975! OAU summit in Uganda

  8. Esororo says:

Thank you guys. I will have more. Ricky Oduol I have something for you in the same site.
    Thank you again. Enjoy.

  9. Mutunga says:

    Hi Steve and Esororo,

Thanks again for the great music. Since you seem to bring up some beautiful tracks by Orchestre Lipua Lipua and Orchestre Kamale, perhaps you can find “Mombasa”. When it came out, I thought it was about Kenya’s old port city but I found out that it was a tribute to Vata Mombasa, Congo’s virtuoso guitarist (rivalled only Dr Nico Kasanda).
And I recall there was a tune called “Abissina” too.
Franco is forever, so perhaps you can get us the nearly-impossible-to-find “Nakoma Mbanda ya Mama na Mobali Na Ngai”, which got banned in Zaire because it was deemed over-the-top and downright scandalous
Speaking of banned music, there was Franco’s pitch for Mobutu Sese Seko, which Moi banned in Kenya! The title was something like “Ya biso candidat Mobutu” but memory fails me. Ok I agee Mobutu did some awful things but that piece of music was truly great, never mind that it was an electoral campaign pitch. Could you post it (even for a short time)? Indeed Franco’s some of Franco’s greatest hits were product placements tracks or straight pitches. I still have copies of “Azda”, “Arzoni”, “Fabrice”, “5 ans Ya Fabrice”, “FC 105″. Those were the days!

  10. Mutunga says:

    Steve,

A call to one of your readers, William Bain who revealed that he had a copy of Franco’s “Nakoma Mbanda na Mama Ya Mobali Na Ngai”. If this gentleman can post the full track somewhere where we can hear, it, he will have done something for the History of Congolese music.

  11. Madelle says:

    Vipi Stevo,

Thanks SANA for the Zik, and I will be backing up my laptop kesho just to guard against these mishaps of “Crash”. Wish Mutunga could send you that Zik and you do a Franco theme…

Coming closer home, the everlasting Malaika would be an interesting theme to explore if you could post the original and all the versions done of the same…now THAT would be interesting. I have heard some really moving versions but all borrow heavily from the original sound.

Malaika theme please, and thanks way back then for Ndaya (Mpongo love). You are doing a GREAT job.

mobutu by Franco was a lenthy one. We used to make sure that when the song came on at a party, you had the lady you liked or the one you would like to hold for a long time.
I have it somewhere on unmarked cd, I’ll have to dig and listen for it.

  13. Esororo says:

Mutunga, ask and you shall receive. Enjoy sir.
FC 105 is missing in box, how do i get it sir.

  14. Mutunga says:

    Esororo,

The size of my Fc 105 mp3 is 17.6 mb. Probably none of my e-mail accounts will allow me to send anything that heavy. I’ll try to open a “putfile.com” account and give you the link.

  15. Mutunga says:

    Esororo,

Thanks so much for “Candidat Na Biso Mobutu”. I’ve just listened to the full 18 minutes and 31 seconds of the track. I’ll try to upload Fc 105 somewhere then let you know. Have a great weekend.

  16. Esororo says:

    Mutunga,

Anytime sir, If I have it, I will share. It is good to hear someone is enjoying the music.
For FC 105 you can post at http://www.sendspace.com it is free. Goodday to you sir.

And everyone else just wanted to say thank you fro bringing this music alive again. My ipod is brimming witht hese tunes and boy it brings back memories when I was a by in Uganda. Those were days. Just like Mutunga, I woudl like to get hold of candidat moubute sesseko. That was one melow tune. I know the man was not good to his people if if you forget the politics and just enjoy the music, nothing comes close. Do you think you could post it here so i can put it on my ipod? I have been to all music download sites and none stocks it.
Just to say it is really nice for me to share my childhood music memeoreos with my children who have not yet been to Uganda, but absolutely love the music.
    Keep the good work up

    samuel k

Thank you so much for the kind words.
